Multi object adaptive optics (MOAO)

MOAO

In the study of formation and evolution of early galaxies several galaxies should be studied at once using integral field spectrographs. This leads to a large field of view (FoV) that even MCAO cannot handle. But the goal is not to compensate for the whole FoV but only for the small areas of interest. This leads to the idea of Multi-object adaptive optics (MOAO) to use a separate DM for each object. The correction applied to these mirrors will be determined by atmospheric tomography using some guide stars (GSs), natural and laser type ones.

The use of multiple GSs and several DMs demands the solution of huge mathematical systems in short time to fit the required compensation quality and speed.
