Ground layer adaptive optics (GLAO)
GLAO
A ground layer adaptive optics (GLAO) system comprises of several wavefront sensors (WFS) measuring the wavefront aberrations towards several guide star directions. Guide stars may be a combination of natural and laser guide stars (NGS and LGS, respectively). Typically, a single deformable mirror (DM) is used at the ground to provide a uniform correction over the whole field of view.
A GLAO system may be used in combination with an MOAO system, in which additional DMs positioned behind the ground DM provide finer correction towards individual objects of interest.
